Cervantes

Cervantes

His story from G.R.I.N. (http://www.galgorescue.org):

Cervantes is a very special, very sweet Podenco Andaluz who was rescued by the workers of Refugio Kimba in Cadiz, Spain. Cervantes had been caught in a two hunter’s traps, losing the paw and lower portion of his left front leg, and lacerating his right front. Despite the grave injury he survived and was found by the rescuers in Chiclana's fields (Cadiz). He was hungry and thirsty but alive, and the incredible team at Kimba gave him the care he needed to thrive. They were concerned, however, that the shelter was not the best place for him to live as they feared he might suffer further injury due to his disability, so they sent out a plea for a home for their special boy.

The Galgo Rescue International Network received the email plea and decided that Cervantes should come to the US. He arrived on October 24, 2007 after his long journey from Cadiz. He is now in a loving foster home and is doing very well. He is a sweet, social and very endearing boy. He desperately wants someone to love him and will crawl into any available lap. He would probably do best in a home with only one or two other pets – not because he doesn't get along with other dogs, but because he craves attention. He is very good with other dogs and has shown a great deal of affection for his canine housemates – he even tried to assist his galga foster sister, when she was attempting to remove her muzzle, by using his “nub” leg to help pull it off. There is just something very special about Cervantes, and he is ready and willing to love and be loved. He is a petite little guy – less than 40 pounds – but has a heart the size of an ocean.

Our Story

Cervantes is now at his permanent home in Colorado and is adjusting very well. He arrived on a flight from Atlanta on December 17, 2007. Eric and Jennifer (New Family) along with Christie and Kim (volunteers with G.R.I.N.) met him at Denver International Airport when he arrived. He had to fly about 5,542 miles in order to be here. (Spain to Atlanta to Denver). He now has a sister (Zamie) and a brother (Murfy)... both greyhounds. This house has literally gone to the hounds. Toys scattered about as usual, but now with another hound in the mix. Where exactly do the humans sleep now that the couch and bed are taken? Cervantes loves the backyard especially when the sun is shining. You can also see that he loves all of our furniture.

2008 Resolutions

I will be sure to empty out each toy box every day, at least once a day,
and then watch Mom pick up all the toys from all over the house before
we go to bed.

I will be sure to wrestle with Dad every day.

I will be sure give Mom and Dad my famous Cervantes hug everyday that
includes wet kisses.

I will be sure to sunbathe in the backyard only when the weather is nice
enough, so Mom does not worry.

I will be sure to eat all my breakfast and dinner and then check to see
if Zamie and Murfy need help with theirs.

I will be sure to provoke Murfy into playing with me every day and I will
try not to get scared when he starts his "zoomies" around the house.

I will be sure to keep Mom and Dad warm in bed at night.

I will be sure to make lots grumbly noises when Mom and Dad hug on me.

I will be sure to not crawl around under the deck in the backyard
anymore. (It's scares Mom and Dad when they lose sight of me and they
say something about me being "stinky" when I come out.)

I will be sure to never, ever forget what all the volunteers at Kimba
and G.R.I.N. did to help me and the second chance they gave me at a new
life.

I will be sure to never, ever forget all the other doggies that need a
second chance at life and will hope and pray for them everyday.
